Personal History

The eldest of three children, Dr. Rita Mehta was born in 2156 in Tycho City on Luna to Douglas and Meeta Mehta.  Growing up in one of the oldest off-world settlements, where Earth traditions blended with the identity of Luna.  Rita was inspired early in life with a fascination with culture and history.  At the age of 16, she attended the University of Alpha Centauri, where she earned degrees in Anthropology and Xenoarchaeology.  Instead of attending a traditional university for her doctorate Mehta was allowed to work on a vessel that served as a university. On this ship was able to examine and work directly in the field.  One type of research, she did for her doctorate was how early Human colonies located far beyond Earth and isolated were able to develop their own distinct identities, while still being able to remain connected to their origins. During this time, Rita participated in numerous Federation archaeological expeditions.  Her work spanned over Humans, Vulcans, Andorians, Tellarites and several other Federation worlds.  Over her short time among those in her field, Rita had become known for her minimal interference belief regarding developing worlds.  It is her belief that even the smallest bit of interference could change the entire trajectory of an entire civilization.    In the field of anthropology, Doctor Mehta feels that they have an obligation to observe only those who are less developed.  But as for those who are not less developed.  It's her belief that the Federation almost has an obligation to study and learn about other cultures and not just for the purpose of assimilating them into the Federation.
