Mission: Escape Velocity
Location: Deck 3: Science Department
Timeline: 12 Days to Launch

The doors to the turbolift on deck three opened as Lieutenant Hunt exited with a team behind with several crates behind him. It had just been three days since Tyler had arrived on the ship and already, he cleared most of the shipments lying around. As more personnel arrived in the operations department, he immediately put them to work. It didn't take much time for him to realize that the science department took up almost two decks, and the demands from multiple specialists that were slowly but surely arriving by the day were coming in.

Since he was here, Hunt thought it would be a good time to meet the Chief Science Officer, who just happened to also be the Eventide's Executive Officer. It didn't take long for Tyler to find Commander Jameson standing outside of his office. "Commander Jameson," he called out.

Hearing someone calling his name he looked over his shoulder towards the source of the voice. "Ahh... Mr. Hunt. What can I do for you?"

"Going around making deliveries and just wanted to take the time to finally meet you," the Lieutenant answered. "Clearly the science makes up the majority of the crew."

Sam chuckled at that. "That is definitely true, seems to be a lab for almost everything isn't there?", he asked rhetorically. Looking past him at the crewman behind him, rubbing his hands together, "So what do you have for me?"

Hunt handed the PADD he was carrying over to the Commander. "Various forms of equipment for planetary sciences and exobiology. Not sure I want to know what they plan on doing with those organisms they're bringing on board."

"What? You've never heard of gagh? They say it's best eaten alive..."

With the look on Hunt's and several of the others faces he had to laugh. "Just kidding. The Doctor said he had several live specimens being shipped over, so those might be his."

After reviewing the padd he looked the crewman. "Okay. The gear for Planetary Sciences is just four lab down the hall. Exobiology...unfortunately that's on the other side of this deck. But fortunately just at the end of the midship corridor for this deck."

The Crewman nodded as they began carrying the crates to their respective labs. Watching his people clear out, the Lieutenant shook his head. "Gagh is something that I hope I never have to be forced to eat. Though, I can't recall the last time, I heard anyone sharing a meal with a Klingon."

"You and me both, but those unlucky enough to have to were probably some poor diplomat." Lean back on the bulkhead. "While I got ya here how are things going on the supply side and the ships prep?

"Have arrival dates on most of the supplies, which will make it with plenty of time to spare," Ty reported. "The only concern is the science department. Demands are quite high, and several requests, I'm afraid, will be met with a no."

While he was pleased to hear the general supply needs for the ship were running smoothly, that was not the case for the needs of his department. Crossing his arms as he arched a single brow. "Ohh? And why is that?"

"The scientist put in a lot of additional requests," he answered with a sigh. "If you look over the list, I was able to acquire what is typically in an average science department, with the exception of a few things I was able to acquire on short notice. But some things will simply not make it before our launch date. Apparently, civilian scientists feel that bringing everything besides the kitchen sink is a must."

Unfolding his arms Sam extended his hand for the list and perused the items that still needed to be acquired. Some of the items were clearly 'wants' and nowhere near a realistic 'must have'. Others were not a must either but could be reasonably justified, especially with the Eventide heading into the unknown.

With an audible "hmmm" he made a few annotations. "Well you did your best to prioritize based on typical load out and what you could get through official channels. However the Eventide isn't going on the typical mission and I would rather have too much than not enough.

"That said and given the time remaining, it's time to adapt and overcome." Handing back the padd, "On the remaining items.... For the eqiupment...get the next best thing or get the materials needed and have engineering fabricate what they want. For the compounds and other chemicals...find items that can either be combined to create or broken down to get what was requested.

"There is a whole planet below us with resources, businesses, schools, and merchants. Use the items that won't arrive until after launch as trade or collateral if you need."

"I've been able to acquire items by doing the wheeling and dealing method for the most part," the operations chief explained. And still waiting for some contacts to get back with me. "But the issue I am having for example, like a request for a Fadeeder. It's a creature native to Terra Nova. Apparently, their enzymes have certain healing abilities. They're hard to come by, and getting one here is going to take more time than we have. Unless you're able to acquire some on the black market, of course. The Federation doesn't like to acquire them that way due to how certain traders handle creatures in less humane ways."

"Well if there is something that has similar enzymes or you can get compounds that will provide the same healing abilities...the doc can adapt. But if we have something aboard that will do for now the doctor will just have to wait. I know I don't have to tell you to focus on mission critical first, then the things in the 'would be nice' category.

"If it'll help the 'wheeling and dealing' I got several bottles of scotch I could contribute to the cause."

Tyler smiled a bit. "Mission critical, and most of what would be nice has arrived or is on the way. Just wanted to give you a heads up before the department comes to you about chopping my head off. Keep that scotch on standby, though. Who knows when I may need to barter."

Sam returned the smile and chuckled. "Well sometimes you have to 'beg, barter, or steal', as the saying goes." Wagging a finger with a humorous expression, "But no stealing...", adding with a wink, "...appropriate maybe. As the the rest of the department heads, or anyone else for than matter. Just send them to me if they get their knickers in a twist."

"I'll resist the urge to steal. And stand by for that line of complaints."

Sam Laughed, "Well most of the malcontents will be in my department so I be sure to give the "adapt and overcome speech ne the line starts forming. Besides, supply has been an issue with services long before Starfleet ever existed. Until they figure out how to be able to...replicate whatever we need whenever we need it, supplies will always be an issue.

Hunt looked up at the ceiling as he rubbed his chin. "Replication would be absolutely amazing. But could it realistically ever be a reality?"

Shrugging. "To be honest the word just popped. But it would definitely create all kinds of possibilities. Who knows what the future holds, but for now we have a ship to ready. Let me know if you have any problems."

"Will do, Sir." Hunt turned and headed down the hall for his next stop.

Watching Hunt depart he considered the possibilities. The benefits of replication were endless and he kicked around the idea as he returned to his own tasks.
