707 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Escape Velocity
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: 8 Days to Launch

It was officially down to a little over a week before the Eventide would officially launch. As for the extensive list of things that Tyler had to get done beforehand. He was satisfied that things were on track and that any issues that popped up was quickly resolved. But the one thing on his list of things to do was his initial check up. It was difficult to hold your people accountable when he hadn't gotten it done yet. Stepping into sickbay, he watched the staff working, still trying to get things set up. Among the medical who was unloading the shipping containers were members of the operations department, located under a couple of computer terminals, getting systems up and running.

Choosing not to be a bother to anyone, Hunt stepped into the waiting room checking in with a Crewman regarding his appointment to see the doctor. In all honesty, he didn't know much about the Chief Medical Officer. But likely that would change soon enough, considering that they would find themselves in many senior staff meetings.

Dr. Calhoun stepped into the forward area of his new sickbay and found his next appointment. “You must be Lieutenant Hunt. Come right in. I’m Dr. Calhoun, the CMO.

"That's correct doctor."

Pleasure to meet you. Have a seat. I just have some routine questions before we begin.”

Hopping up on the biobed, Tyler simply nodded. "Fire away with the questions."

Chief Operations Officer, is that correct? Your Starfleet record shows your current height and weight? We can update that as we go. What can you tell me about your overall health? Have you been ill recently?”

"That's my job," the young man joked. "Overall my health is good. Been missing lunch mostly due to working nonstop and snacking throughout the shift. "Trying to make a lot of deadlines before we head out."

“Missing meals is never a good idea, Mr. Hunt. You need your nutrition and so on. I can prescribe some nutritional supplements if you think it’s necessary. In the meantime, please lay down so I can get you in the imagine chamber.”

Tyler thought about the suggestion briefly before shaking his head. "The supplements won't be necessary. Doing the right thing and not missing meals is what's best." Lying back he sighed, while staring at the ceiling.

“Skipping meals is definitely not a good idea. Just relax, Mr. Hunt, 10 minutes in the chamber and we should be finished.”

Approximately ten minutes later, the chamber doors open and the platform containing Hunt slides out. “You can climb out, Lieutenant. The results are not remarkable. Your cardiopulmonary output is nominal, no irregularities. Liver function normal, There is some minor vasoconstriction in your extremities and neural tissue. Have you been experiencing headaches or cramping? Might be stress related or something as simple as dehydration.”

Sitting up, he considered the question. "Had a headache last night, but it was gone by the time I woke up this morning. No cramping whatsoever. Should I expect cramping?"

“I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Stay hydrated, get your exercise, watch your diet. I can give you an analgesic….”, the Doctor said.

"Is the analgesic a one time thing?" The last thing Tyler wanted was to be dependent on any type of medication. Being dependent on anything was never a good thing.

“Not unless this is a chronic condition. Lieutenant, please notify me immediately if this persists. If this is a one-and-done situation, I wouldn’t be concerned. You’ll let me know if you continue experiencing symptoms.”

"Will do doc." Hopping off the biobed, he stretched out. "Now, is there anything that I can do for you doctor? Assuming all the medical equipment that you ordered has fully arrived at sickbay."

“I appreciate you asking, but I believe we have everything we need. You may return to duty, Lieutenant. Call if you need anything. You know where to find me.”

"That goes both ways, Doctor. Any concerns with medical equipment that pops up at some point before we ship out, let me know." Hunt then exited sickbay, making his way to his next destination.
